Many people end up at www.UnchainYourDog.org because they are looking for information on dog fighting. We agree with hip-hop mogul Russell Simmons that Cruel's Not Cool (Listen to Simmons or see poster).

Please, have a heart and treat other living and feeling creatures the way you want to be treated: with respect and kindness. Dogs are social animals who - in the wild - hunt together, sleep together, and play together. It is a dog's nature to respect the pack leader and get along with the rest of the pack. Not to fight. Dogfighting is cruel, unnatural, and wrong.

Dog fighting is a felony, so report it to the police! To learn more about dog fighting and how to stop it, visit our Dogfighting page.

6 Men Face Pit Bull Fight Spectating Charges

October 14, 2003, SIMONTON, TX -- Deputies responding to a dog-fighting complaint call found 13 pit bull dogs with several lacerations chained up in different areas of a Simonton home's yard Sunday night.

After officials arrived on the scene around 10 p.m., six men and a 15-year-old boy were spotted near a house. The men were allegedly using a fighting arena near a trailer on the property, according to investigators. The six men were arrested in a rural area near Simonton. Officials charged the men with dog fighting and they were booked in the Fort Bend County Jail.

"There was fresh blood everywhere -- blood on the grass, blood in the arena. (Sheriff's deputies) probably got there about 10 minutes late," Fort Bend County Sheriff's Department Jeannie Gage said. Officials identified the men as Quinn Solomon, 18; Calebe White, 29; Norris Johnson, 23; Lawrence Perkins, 25; and Alex Solomon, 43. They were all charged with a Class C misdemeanor of spectating.

One of the men arrested and charged was Rolando Johnson, 17, who attends Foster High School and plays on the football team. His father said a dog fight didn't happen and that the charges are trumped up.

Johnson's father insists that the men arrested were just talking. Authorities said this was not the first time a dog fight was broken up on the property. The man who rents the land was arrested and his dogs were confiscated eight years ago in another ring. Neighbors said fighting dogs are still raised on the property and that their kennels are kept in plain sight.

The 15-year-old boy was released into his parents' custody. Fort Bend County Animal Control took control of 13 pit bull dogs. Authorities are still investigating the incident.
