August 16, 2005, FERGUS FALLS, MINNESOTA -- A 2-year-old boy living at the Lakeview Estates Trailer Homes in Fergus Falls was sent to the hospital Monday night and received six stitches for wounds to his face and neck after he was allegedly attacked by a dog.

Fergus Falls police said the boy wandered over to a neighbor's yard where he was bitten by a collie mix that was chained in the front yard.

Police said the boy was rescued by a neighbor.

Fergus Falls Chief of Public Safety Tim Brennan said it is not known yet what will happen to the dog.

Under Minnesota law, Brennan said the dog will likely be deemed a dangerous animal and its owners will have 14 days to go through several steps to keep it, including building an adequate confinement area for it, ensuring it is properly leashed and muzzled when out of the confinement area, posting that a dangerous dog is on their premises and obtaining liability insurance for the animal.

If the dog's owners do not comply with those mandates, police will seize the animal, Brennan said.
